Always Start Small

I have done it myself in the past but these days I always start my pokie sessions with a small note like a $5 or $10 note. This way I can test the machine and see if it is in a paying mode or not. If I'm still unsure after the first $5 then I play carefully and be ready to bail out anytime and move on to another machine. Once you use most of the first $5 up then insert 1 or 2 $20 notes. The machine will probably then kick into a higher paying mode with more money in it but if it does not look good with a small note then it probably is going to be difficult to win on that machine at that time.

Check the Majors

On Lightning and Dragon cash games if the Major is under $550 then it is probably better to pick another machine. These majors have not built up enough since the last one and therefore the machine is less likely to payout. But here is something important..,\. If the major has just been taken and it shows just over $500 then this can be the really good time to play that machine. The reason is that the machine is still most likely to be in a paying mode. Sure, you might not win the major but the minors and minis can still be up for the taking plus the wins can be ready to take.

Pay Mode

If the machine is not paying then it will probably be like that for sometime. Do not expect a game you are playing to suddenly start winning. If you are not making good wins then move on. If you have already invested a hundred or more dollars and are hesitant to leave that machine with your money still in it then just remember there are many more machines that have also taken other peoples money.. You must learn to walk away when you are not winning.Never start with a $50 note or higher unless you are sure that machine is ready to pay.

Set a Cutoff Point

When you are winning then it's vital to set a cutoff point so you can use that as part of your strategy to make a profit. For example if you put in $50 and you are up to $100 then a good cut off point might be $80. That way you can still try to win more but if you drop down to $80 then you take that and move onto another machine. If you say go up to $120 then your new cutoff point might be now $100. The cutoff point is dynamic and you must keep changing it as you go up.

Don't Sit on One Machine for Too Long

A big mistake many people make is they stay on one game too long. I often see people play the same game for hours. If you have been on the same machine for 30 minutes then you have been on it far too long and it will soon take your money. This leads me to the next tip...

Play Each machine for a Small Profit

A good strategy is to move around and not get bogged down on one machine. Try and aim for a smaller profit on each game you play. For example put in $20 in a machine and when you are up to say $30-$40 then take it and move on. Of course, if the machine is still paying out then stay on it but as soon as it looks to be slowing down then move on.
